NATURAL.AUTHENTIC.GENUINE

When searching the world for our ingredients, KEVIN.MURPHY looked for companies that use small –scale cultivation, organic growing practices, or ecologically sound wild harvesting techniques to ensure the KEVIN.MURPHY range was of the very highest natural quality.

KEVIN.MURPHY does not harm nor test on animals in any way. They only test on human models! KEVIN.MURPHY avoids the use of any ingredients that will damage or harm animals or the environment.

GO.GREEN.WITH.KEVIN.MURPHY

At KEVIN.MURPHY, they care about the environment and recognize the seriousness of dangerous climate change. They look for resources that are sustainable and renewable or perpetual resources that are in no danger of lacking long-term availability.

KEVIN.MURPHY chooses to use paper packaging that is made from post-consumer waste and all our secondary packaging is paper or cardboard. Common plastic bags found in most shops are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and require sunlight to breakdown. As most end up in landfill, a complete breakdown may never happen, even after 500 years! A paper bag or cardboard box made from recycled material will decompose in landfill in less than 6 months. If composted, in less than 2 months.

KEVIN.MURPHY chose square packaging that holds more volume and uses 40% less plastic in an aim to take up less space, less space in landfill.

When searching the world for our ingredients, KEVIN.MURPHY looked for companies that use small –scale cultivation, organic growing practices, or ecologically sound wild harvesting techniques to ensure the KEVIN.MURPHY range was of the very highest natural quality.

Lastly, with selected product sales, a cash donation will be made by KEVIN.MURPHY to the Australian Conservation Foundation in an effort to not only lesson our overall global carbon footprint, but to help educate and drive reductions in global carbon omissions.

KEVIN.MURPHY’S COMMITMENT AND PASSION IS TO CREATE QUALITY HAIR CARE PRODUCTS THAT ARE NATURAL, AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE WITH A GUARANTEE OF RELIABILITY AND EFFECTIVENESS.

THE.ANTIOXIDANT.RANGE

Antioxidants fight the breakdown of hair on a cellular level, eradicating dryness, reducing breakage, and repairing chemical damage. Hair specifically requires antioxidants as every service you get from a salon is an oxidizing process, in which oxidizing is like rusting and decaying the hair. You need to stop the rust or decay to fend off the elements and fend off damage. The sun’s UV rays add to this oxidizing process.

The meticulously blended ingredients in the KEVIN.MURPHY range will regenerate and repair damaged hair. The antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that are applied to the hair and scalp are easily and quickly absorbed into the cells.

Australian Kakadu Plum, the world’s most powerful antioxidant, is a key ingredient within the KEVIN.MURPHY range. Wild harvested from the Australian rainforest, Kakadu Plum has now been found to have 50 times more Vitamin C than any known plant.

Also found in the Australian rainforest, super antioxidants Wattle Seed extract and Desert Lime extract, have been specifically selected for the KEVIN.MURPHY range for their nutritional and regenerating effects on hair.

VITAMINS

The KEVIN.MURPHY range uses vitamin esters that are more effective in preventing damage than traditional methods. The vitamins are simply absorbed into the hair after being deposited onto the cuticle, penetrating deep into the cortex of the hair. These vitamins reduce the formation of split ends, repairing damaged hair. The antioxidants, topical vitamins and citamin esters (E and C), will increase the speed at which the hair and scalp will recover, repair, and regenerate.

WHY.ESSENTIAL.OILS?

Essential oils are naturally regenerative and anti-oxidizing, plus they can rebuild and repair the hair on a cellular level. The molecules in essential oils are small enough to pass through the cellular wall to repair the hair at the dermis or basal layers during the growing phase. Because they go deeper than the scalp, essential oils can influence healthy growth where the hair is born. They also increase the rate of healthy cellular re-growth. Essential oils are biocatalysts, meaning they have many key functions and benefits – they anti-oxidize, moisturize, repair, and regenerate – and they are far more superior in composition and effectiveness than any man made substances.

CHANGE IN TOTAL COMBING FORCE:
Basic Spritz: 140% Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate: 130%
PVP/DMAPA Acrylates Copolymer: 90%; KEVIN.MURPHY X-HPTM Complex: 55%

FLEXABRASION.STUDY

The damage inflicted on hair by intense heat styling can be expected to reduce the overall strength of the hair. Flexabrasion studies were carried out to assess the changes in strength of straightened hair treated with the different heat protection products. KEVIN.MURPHY X-HPTM Complex protects the hair with no significant decrease in hair strength after straightening, unlike the basic spritz and the competitive products in which significant strength loss was observed.

FAQ’s

1. What ingredients does KEVIN.MURPHY use to strengthen the hair?
KEVIN.MURPHY uses many ingredients to strengthen the hair; from Amino Acids to Proteins and often combinations of botanicals and natural plant derivatives.

2. KEVIN.MURPHY lists Glycerin in some of their products. It has been taught that Glycerin strips color. What purpose does the Glycerin serve and is it color safe?
Glycerin is a wonderful lubricant and moisturizer. It helps to keep the hair soft and pliable. If used at the correct levels and formulated by the right chemists, glycerin is completely color safe. Remember, anything used incorrectly can be harmful, damaging the hair or stripping color.

3. Why doesn’t KEVIN.MURPHY use Sulphates?
Sodium Laureth or Lauryl Sulphates are synthetic cleansing agents that are of small molecular sizes. They are capable of penetrating the skin, which can increase the occurrence of skin irritation while stripping the hair color. They have recently come under investigation as possible cancer and environmental concerns.

KEVIN.MURPHY DOES NOT USE SULPHATE SURFACTANTS IN ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS! Sulphate free surfactants are a larger molecule than sulphates, therefore they have less ability to penetrate into the skin and so they are less irritant. Also, because of their larger molecule quality, they help to keep the hair from depleting its color. Plus they add great shine and luster.

4. What are parabens, and what is used instead of parabens?
Parabens are generally used as preservatives and for micro protection. In the past, parabens have been the main ingredients to prevent products from growing mold, bacteria, or yeast. This is very important because without this protection, your products could become a health hazard. In recent years, parabens have become a negative word, as they have been linked to possible cancer and environmental issues. Even though these claims are very debatable, many reputable companies who care about these issues have been diligently working to replace parabens with safe and natural ones that are paraben free.

It has not been easy , as each product must be independently “micro challenged,” and may require a different combination of preservatives to keep integrity while safeguarding the consumer and the environment. At KEVIN.MURPHY, we use a variety of different preservatives, and in a variety of different combinations, each having their own (long winded) legal names.

Wherever possible KEVIN.MURPHY tries to use natural preservatives, and they always insure that they are safe and environmentally responsible and do not contain parabens.

5. Are KEVIN.MURPHY products pH balanced?
All KEVIN.MURPHY products are acid balanced with a pH mantle range between 4.5 and 6.5. Even though each product does have a standard pH, every formula when made is given a range for manufacturing. For example, if LUXURY.RINSE has a pH of 5.5, then its range will probably be between 5.0 and 6.0

6. Are KEVIN.MURPHY products silicone free?
KEVIN.MURPHY does not use old types of silicones that tend to leave a heavy residue on the hair or make it feel limp, dirty, or greasy. However, newer technology has developed Multi-Function Silicones that are often attached to a protein or amino acid. These types of silicones are virtually weightless and are used in many high-end skin creams to help remove wrinkles and slow the aging of skin. KEVIN.MURPHY has found some amazing benefits to these types of ingredients that help slow down the aging and damage to the hair. These ingredients are not greasy and do not build up in the hair and they are easily shampooed and rinsed off with any KEVIN.MURPHY wash. Therefore, you may occasionally see some of these silicones in KEVIN.MURPHY products.

7. Do KEVIN.MURPHY products contain sunscreen?
Yes, to protect the hair and products from any damage that can be cause by UV rays. All KEVIN.MURPHY products contain sunscreen.

8. Do the sunscreens have an SPF?
Legally, KEVIN.MURPHY is unable to state the actual SPF number on hair, as hair cannot regenerate itself like skin. KEVIN.MURPHY uses many different types of sunscreens in their products, however one of the more common names you will see on the list is Octlmethoxycinnamate, which is one of the best and is often used in high-end sunscreen products. Sunscreen not only protects the hair but also the color and integrity of the product and packaging.

9. What is Molecular Weight?
Molecular weight determines the molecular size of an ingredient. It is usually measured in Daltons. An example would be 150m/w = 150 Daltons.

10. What is meant by Keratin based?
Keratin based means that the base of the ingredient or product is made up of Keratin amino acids or proteins.

11. What is Keratin base?
HKP also known as Human Hair Keratin Protein is derived from the clippings and cuttings of human hair. No humans are harmed during this process.

COMBING.STUDIES

Thermal styling raises the cuticle on hair fibers, creating friction between the strands. This increases the force required to pull a comb through the hair, making combing more difficult. KEVIN.MURPHY X-HPTM Complex and other products claiming heat protection were tested using the Mini Tensile Tester (MTT) to assess their effectiveness at reducing the combing forces when compared to a basic spritz. The change in force before and after straightening provides an indication of heat protection properties of the products.

The results have been expressed as the average percentage increase in total work required to comb the tress.
